How to Pray Without Ceasing - the Secret of the Mystics

If God is everywhere, and you are out of touch with Him, it is not because He is not there. It is because wittingly or unwittingly you are somehow blocking realizing His Presence.

You do not have a rapport with Him because you have a rapport with everything else.

Have you ever encountered two people who are completely involved with each other, like in love, and they only have eyes for each other? It is like you didn't even exist.

Well, something similar happens to us, when it comes to the world. People, objects, words, music, study, sports, shopping, you name it--just about everything entices us. We get caught up emotionally with things we like and things we hate. We look to them for fulfilment, entertainment, comfort and so on. We look to people especially, and we also look to drugs and to food to meet our needs and comfort us.

Call it a worldly hypnosis, if you will. It is what the Bible calls the love of the world.

But through emotions and through being ambitious or resentful, we get totally caught up with people, plans, objects and substances.

It is only natural when we are kids and teens. After all, we are born as egos, and we have to grow as egos. The people and things of the world have a natural affinity for our ego.

It is not wrong. It is just natural.  But after having grown up, graduated from school, started to work, gotten married, raised a family, and all these natural activities, there comes a time of searching for some of us.

The world is nice, but we yearn for something above the fray. We yearn for something pure and good. We don't realize even what we are yearning for and searching for, but it is actually the Father we have never known that our soul yearns for.

This searching and yearning of the soul is actually the predisposition to beginning to find God. Our soul's cry is like a silent cry to the Father and He hears His child.

He responds by giving you objectivity. You begin to feel a little distant to people, places and things. Standing back mentally, you see things for what they are.

Objectivity means that God has drawn you a little closer to Him, and this breaks down the worldly hypnosis.

Have you ever bought something that you wanted too much and then then next day you look at it, and the hypnosis has broken down, and you think "what did I buy that for?"

Have you ever been all caught up with someone, and then all of a sudden you saw their other face, and suddenly you are not caught up with them anymore?

Have you ever faced a crisis--someone in your family goes into the hospital or something--and suddenly you sober up. You feel formal and distant, but you are able to function calmly.

These are examples of where you have experienced the hypnosis breaking down and your coming out of your trance.

Well, when the day comes that your soul's yearning is answered by God, He begins to gently break down the hypnosis of the world and you come up in awareness to see things as they are.

You attach yourself to Him, in a sort of heavenly hypnosis, and now you have a rapport with Him.

Now, if you have understood what I have just said, you might see the need to try the meditation I offer at the Center for Common Sense Counseling. It is a simple technique that helps a person get out of thinking and negative emotion and become objective and closer to God. That's all.

It is anti hypnotic. It counters worldly hypnosis. That is why it only works for those who love the truth and who are open to discovering truth.  For the dyed in the wool egotist (who does not want to be humbled by truth or God), it is the last thing they want. For the person who wants to revel in emotions and sensuality, it is like a wet blanket and again, it is the last thing they want.

People drink to deny, take drugs to deny and live their whole life in denial. The proper meditation is just the opposite of that.

Now can you see that a person who is closer to God and close to His Presence, is able to pray without ceasing? He or she is simply closer to God, and instead of wanting to deny truth, wants to know truth and know God's will.

He of she has an attitude of gratitude. An attitude of being open to the truth. Every moment the  person is always wanting to do the right thing.
