10 Secrets to an Effective Prayer Life

1. Have an attitude of gratitude.

2. Be more forgiving. Let go of resentment.

3. Don't try to change other people.

4. Watch out for judgment. It is okay to see another's error, just remove the pinch of resentment.

5.  Stand back from negative thoughts. Observe doubts and fears without getting pulled into them.

6. Live in the present. Whenever you notice yourself lost in a daydream, snap out. Keep snapping out.

7. Have faith. Don't preplan the future. Of course, it's wise to plan things like taking provision for a trip. But don't set lofty goals for yourself or others.

8. Be spontaneous. Speak up about little things right away before resentment and anger fester.

9. Overlook other's imperfections.

10. Begin the day with a proper Christian meditation. That way you will be pre-armed with patience. If you go out in the world and become upset, you have to play catch up and it is hard to meditate or pray when you are already upset.

11. Bonus Secret. Don't get pulled into arguments. Take a step back. Get the big picture.  If you find yourself getting too involved in something--even music, a move, or a ball game--mentally step back.
