The Benefits of Christian Meditation by Roland Trujillo, the World's Foremost Expert on Christian Mindfulness Meditation

From the world of sin and noise
And hurry I withdraw;
For the small and inward voice
I wait with humble awe;
Silent am I now and still,
Dare not in Thy presence move;
To my waiting soul reveal
The secret of Thy love.

Charles Wesley.

When therefore the smallest instinct or desire
of thy heart calleth thee towards God,
and a newness of life, give it time and leave to speak;
and Take care thou refuse not Him that speaketh.
Be retired, silent, passive,
and humbly attentive to this
new risen light within thee.

William Law.

Pastor Roland's comments:

Both of these men get it.

Most of us are first lost in the distractions of the world, and then we are lost in the squirrel cage of thinking and feeling. We relive the past and plan and worry about the future. The benefit of the true meditation is that it teaches a person how to be still. It teaches a person how to be in the world but not of the world and how to observe thought without being lost in thought.

Of course we have to work, visit with others and so on. But we must learn to do so without getting caught up in the emotions and distractions.

And we must learn to go into our room and practice being still.

Most importantly, we must learn how to observe thoughts (most of which are negative) without struggling with them or trying to suppress them. Just watch them, like observing a blaring TV at the other end of the room with a bad grade B movie; it's not even credible, so you don't pay attention--just let it go in one ear and out the other. Click on the meditation Tab above to listen to a free introductory version of the meditation. It teaches you how to be still.
