How to Deal with Worries Doubts and Fears
by Roland Trujillo 2012

Pastor, I'm in a hurry
But I need your advice.
All I do is worry
And rethink everything twice.

I worry about this and I worry about that.
Whether I'm too thin or maybe too fat.

Did I remember to feed the cat?

Did I turn off the television?
Did I wait until the dryer stopped spinning?
Did I turn on the answering machine?
Was that scary thing real or was it a dream?

Will I ever meet someone?
With me, does anyone ever have fun?
Did I commit the unpardonable sin?
When I arrive will they let me in?

I dread having to give a speech tomorrow.
Why am I always behind a hard act to follow?
I'm worried about today,
I'm still worrying about yesterday.
Does my hair look okay?

Pastor, I need your help and suggestion.
But I'm worried you won't answer my question.
_____________

Don't worry or fear,
Pastor Roland is here.
He's a Pastor
And he's got an answer.

Relax and get a good night's rest.
Pastor Roland's answers are the best.
He's working on an answer for you;
It will be ready soon.

Thank you for your excellent question.
And let me just mention
I would like to assure you that you are not alone.
Most people get lost in thoughts
Which soon take on a negative tone.

Meditation is the repair
To worries, doubts, fears and despair.
So grab your mobile device and read my poem.
And read it on your desktop when you are home.

Your problem is you are too lost between your ears.
You dwell on the morbid and fall into fears.
You're too lost in daydreams, thoughts and schemes,
Replacing reality with fantasy scenes.

Things are never as bleak as they seem.
Your unhappy thoughts and fears are like a bad dream.
Just meditate to wake up and see
They are just thoughts and not reality.

When we're young we dream of being an athlete
Or entertainer without compare.
But when we get older, our daydreams become nightmares.
We develop the habit of escaping from our cares
The mental world becomes so strong
Soon it's in charge and bossing us around.

The solution is elementary -
Learn to stand back mentally.
Become the thinker instead of the thought
Soon you'll be in charge, as you ought.

Get out of your thinking and fantasy
And meditate for objectivity.
Become aware of your hand
Then you'll understand.

Watch the thoughts go passing by.
Don't get involved.
Just watch them go and kiss them goodbye,
They will tease and taunt and continue to try
To pull you in to get involved.

Just remember that no issues by worry were ever solved.
And as the thoughts go marching by
From your mental grandstand wave goodbye.

Things are never as bleak as they seem.
Your unhappy thoughts and fears are like a bad dream.
Just meditate to wake up and see
They are just thoughts and not reality.

Once you become centered and grounded
You'll see that most of your fears are unfounded.

Get out of your thinking
And the emotions in which you are sinking.
Mentally step back
And calmly observe your panic attacks.
Remain neutral and mentally distant.

Don't offer resentful resistance.
Struggling makes negative thoughts worse.
Just remember the following verse:

Things are never as bleak as they seem.
Your unhappy thoughts and fears are like a bad dream.
Just meditate to wake up and see
They are just thoughts and not reality.

Don't sit around and ruminate
Let me show you how to meditate.

It's so easy, you will say "wow."
"Nobody ever showed me how."
I can get you started now.

You will be able to discern what is true
And you'll intuit what to do.
Worries, doubts, and fears will be a thing of the past
When you learn to watch them and let them pass.

When you are calm you will act without commotion.
You'll move with grace and calmness instead of emotion.
The result will be progress
And step by step you will find success.

It's important to learn to mentally stand back
So you are in control
Not drifting away with the mental flow.

Once you learn to observe thought,
You are now in effortless control
Of what you once fought.

Don't try to blank your thoughts
Or pretend they aren't there.
Mentally stand back and observe what is there.
Before you shoved them under the carpet to be unaware.
Now at the negative thoughts you will be able to stare.

You are the general
Watching thought from your grandstand
While you notice your forehead and your right hand.

You used to struggle and then throw in the towel
And soon were lost in thought every hour.
Now you'll discover you have the power
To stand back and watch from your observation tower.

You will also relate better to other people and family
You'll discover how to be kind and friendly
Without over-reacting to them emotionally.

You'll have endless patience and a light touch
You'll be able to discern and not judge.

You' ll discover the beauty of reality
The larks and robins you will hear.
Instead of problems, solutions you will see,
And your heart will be filled with cheer.

______________________

Pastor Ro, thank you for your answer today.
I will do what you say.
I'll get your meditation and try it right away.

Do you have any suggestions for friends and family
Who don't use your meditation mp3?

Sure. Remember the goal is emotional control
By staying out of excessive thought,
Through passive observation as I have taught.
My meditation, you will see,
Is the bread and butter of your recovery.

My meditation is the best,
But harm reduction has its place
To help someone be in a better space.

You can tell them about the meditation,
But if you see hesitation,
You can still give them some good advice that's free.
So here's what you can tell them to do
(And it's good advice for you too!)

So here are some other things to do
That won't replace meditation
But will make do
And help someone get by
Until the meditation they are ready to try.

Find something to engage the imagination
Like listening to a ball game on the sports station.
Or an old time radio
Comedy or drama show.

Read a novel or autobiography.
At the public library they are free.
How about books on tape or CD?

Borrow movies from the library:
Detective, romance, mystery,
Adventure or comedy.

Next to meditation, a good book is my favorite
Especially if you don't have to pay for it.
Radio ball games or drama, and movies are good too.
But in a pinch, TV will have to do.
It's better than morbid thoughts and feeling blue.

TV is hypnotic and numbs the critical faculty.
Whereas reading or listening engages the attention healthily.

So TV should be used sparingly
Until you are a seasoned meditator
And can watch with objectivity.

Another thing I would like to say
Is encourage you to do things right away.
A little misunderstanding between you and your mate?
Get it cleared up today, tomorrow is too late.

Something unpleasant that you need to do?
A bill to pay or a chore to do?
Do it now so you won't have to stew.

When you leave something undone
You keep thinking about it and it ruins your fun.
Got a phone call you've got to make?
Do it now and get it out of the way.

It's important to learn to mentally stand back
So you are in control
Not drifting away with the mental flow.
Once you learn to observe thought,
You are now in effortless control
Of what you once fought.

Don't try to blank thoughts with effort
Or hide them under the cover.
But don't drift away with them either.

Mentally stand back and observe what is there.
Before you shoved it under the carpet to be unaware.
Now at the negative thought you will be able to stare.

You are the general watching thought from your grandstand
While you notice your forehead and your right hand.

You used to struggle and then throw in the towel
And soon were lost in thought every hour.
Now you'll discover you have the power

You'll have endless patience and a light touch
You'll be able to discern and not judge.

The larks and robins you will hear.
Instead of problems, solutions you will see,
And your heart will be filled with cheer.

A Short Christmas Grace  by Roland Trujillo

We come to You this Christmas day
And this is what we have to say:
We're grateful for Christmas,
We'll make sure no one misses
The meaning of today.

Jesus brought light to show us the way
To get to know His Dad up above,
Who sent us His Son to get the job done,
And who looks on His children with love.

His Dad says to us: "Just remember Me,
Then go and have fun.
Wipe away your tear
And enjoy the Christmas cheer.
I haven't forgotten you.
I'm looking out for you too.

So just remember Me as you pray,
Then go out and play.
I'm watching out for you
And your parents too."

Christmas Grace and a Story
by Roland Trujillo

We remember the designer of this food,
And who it was who made it taste so good.
Who made the ground, the rain, and the sun in the sky
For the food we eat and then sit back and sigh.

We remember who made the wheat for the bread
And the grapes for the wine,
Which gives us life, strength and the gift of time.

Who made us all
Then watched us grow
To have little gratitude to show,
Then go on our way
And forget about our Maker every day.

We erred and drifted and we got so lost
Soon on the stormy seas of life we were tossed.
We no longer knew just Who
Was our maker and protector.

So what did He do?
He sent people to remind us
Like Moses, Isaiah, and Jeremiah too.

But still we forgot
And remembered Him not.

"I know what I'll do!" Said He.
"I'll do something to improve their memory."

"I'll send my Son to make sure they know
Who is there for them now, then, and long ago."

"I'll make it easy for them to remember Me -
I'll make it fun and memorable as can be,
When I send my Son Who will tell them of Me."

"I'll make His coming a wonderful tale,
The greatest one of all!
In comparison all of the others will pale
When the story of Jesus is recalled."

"That's how everyone will remember
Myself and my Son every December."

"I'm proud of my Son,
He brought me honor and glory.
He never disappointed Me.
Just read the story.

Because He proved His worth
I put Him in charge of earth.
If you're confused, discouraged or lost,
Follow Him, He's a good boss.

I know you've messed up and done wrong,
But my memory is short and not long.
I see my Son not your wrong,
When to His team you belong.

I'll trust my Son to make you right
And fix what hurts you inside.
So listen to Him and what He has to say.
He'll save you from error and show you the way."

So every year when we start to forget,
He says: "I'm not done yet!"
He makes more good food and Christmas delight,
And inspires sweet songs like Silent Night.

He says: "I'll always be there for you.
I was there then long ago, and I'm here now too."

The Talk to a Pastor Poem, by Michael Carlos Simon

Talk to a pastor?
Ask Pastor Roland a question
And he will give you an answer.

From Copenhagen to Key Largo,
From New York to Chicago,
Ask Pastor Ro.

My boyfriend wants to live together.
Do pastors always say "Never?"

Ask Pastor Ro.

What about Christian rock and tattoos?
In church, is it wrong to snooze?

Bible Question? Pastor says yes.
Find out for sure, you don't have to guess.

What's the purpose of life?
Why is there so much strife?

I don't know,
I'll ask Pastor Ro.

Got a question about religion?
Told a lie or cheated a smidgeon?
.
Got relationship issues?
Quit crying in your tissues.
Just ask Pastor Ro.

If you're dealing with a lot of stress?
And your apartment is a mess,
Don't hesitate,
There's no need to wait.
Ask Pastor Ro how to meditate.

Should I tell my kids about Santa Claus?
Was Jesus the greatest man who ever was?
When my cat died, where did she go?
Does anyone really know?

I'll ask Pastor Ro.

I'm taking drugs, but I really want hugs.
When I ask questions, everyone shrugs.

Who else will do this for me?
Pastor Roland is there for thee.

So get your question ready.
Hold your Ipad steady.
Click on the keyboard image,
And don't forget to eat your spinach.

He's got you covered in San Francisco,
Kansas and Texas,
Hello Frisco.
Rio, Toronto and Timbuktu,
Pastor Roland has answers for you,
And maybe a blessing too.

I need to Talk to Someone - a poem by Michael Carlos Simon

Why is the world such a mess?
I can't even guess.

Thank goodness someone is there.

My mom says I'm lazy,
My husband drives me crazy,
My meds make me hazy.

Thank goodness someone is there.

My girlfriend left me and my dog just died,
When they said "no lay offs" I found out they lied.

Thank goodness someone is there.

My rotten boyfriend cheated on me,
I'm so upset I can't find my key.
Oh woe is me!
I owe the library a 12 dollar fee.

I think I've got a mood disorder
Or is it just that my life is out of order?
I lost my cat, my meds made me fat.
Did I mention that I lost my key?

Thank goodness someone is there.

I started to gamble to try my luck,
I lost all my money down to my last buck.
Can you lend me a dollar to buy gas for my truck?
Thank goodness someone is there

I've got an ache in my molar,
And I'm feeling bipolar.
Do you think I should go solar,
Before I get my heater repaired?

I yelled at my kids and I got no excuse,
'Xcept I think I got the holiday blues,
After reading the latest unemployment news,
And I got rain in my shoes.

I know God is there,
He's up there somewhere.
But it's still nice to know,
That here down below,
There's someone like Roland who says
"I care."

The above poem was written by Michale Carlos Simon.

Overcoming the Holiday Blues (and all your other problems too).

Be forgiving to others,
Don't resent your mothers.
Forgive your old dad,
He wasn't that bad.

Watch out for irritation.
Meditate for inspiration.
Stand back - watch irritation from the distance,
Don't struggle using resentful resistance.

Remember to be thankful
For good things that happen to you.
Don't forget to be grateful
For bad things that haven't happened too.

Life is really simple and not so complicated,
Let go of resentment, and your bp won't be elevated.

Don't resent other's imperfections
Don't eat too many sweet confections,
Use your sleeve when you have to sneeze.
And don't indulge your fantasies.

Negative thoughts are not real, you see.
They've been bothering humankind since the Garden of Eden scene.
They're just trying to seduce you into some sort of doubt.
Patient observation is what I'm going to tell you about.

Watch them without struggle until they go away.
Live in the moment, not tomorrow or yesterday.

Thoughts of glory, lust, and fame,
Thoughts of revenge and thoughts of blame,
They're about as credible as a bad 3 AM TV movie.
Just stand back from the thoughts and don't react,
It's the guy with the horns behind them, and that's a fact.

He is the author of the fantasy.
Fixation and fascination are his goal, you see.
He's the director of the bad movie.
If you indulge or struggle, it's enough to drive you looney.

So take my advice, it's really quite easy,
Patient observation is what to do,
When negative thoughts are bothering you.
Keep them in the distance and they will be gone soon,
Like a bad infomercial in the next room.

Thank the Heavens above,
For faith, hope and love too.
It's doubt and resentment that separate you.

You can't give yourself faith,
But you can learn to patiently resist the doubt.

You can't give yourself love,
But when you are patient with others and don't yell and shout -
Love appears within from the Good Lord above.

Warming your soul and dissolving what made you blue,
Giving you patience for others and for yourself too.

Someone Who Overcame Anxiety

Writes a Poem about PTSD

Tired of being unhappy,
Is everything energy sapping?
Would you like to move forward
But you keep looking back
With regret and pain,
And revisiting
Unhappy memories
Again and again?

I want you to see that this is contradictory.
Why would you revisit bad memories
Instead of happy ones?
Why not live them once and move on?

I know the answer but I want you to see
That your mental replays are contradictory.
Living life in the past tense
Doesn't make any sense.

You have a good memory for the bad.
The birds are singing but you are tearful
Cause the past make you sad.
People around you are cheerful
But unfinished business makes you mad.

I want you to see
It's very contradictory.
You want to forget the past,
But remember it compulsively.

There are restorative processes
That can come into play,
Like how a good night's rest sweeps
Trivial memories away.
You wake up fresh and bright
And forget what happened yesterday.

Why are these refreshing processes
Not working on what you would like to forget?

It is because these memories have not been healed
So they can't be swept out.
They house the pain.
And are still crying out
For the right kind of attention.

You look at them with resentment
But until they are looked at with love
They won't give you contentment.

It's unanimous:
Your negative emotions want to be resolved,
And you want the bad memories dissolved.
Let's now look at why your dilemma is not being solved.

Though your body wants to leave the past behind
And so does your mind,
Something is blocking the resolution's unfoldment
And it is something called resentment.

Each memory is not of just of a past scene.
It houses a story and a meaning.
It tells of a story of betrayal or cruelty,
violence, injustice,  neglect, being treated unlovingly,
Or something you're not yet ready to see.

Why Do I Worry All the Time and Feel Anxious or Blue,
Oh What Am I ever Going to Do!

Hi, this is PastorRoland
When thoughts and fears are taking their toll and
You don't know what to do
Pastor Roland has an answer for you!

Your problem is you are lost between your two ears.

Kids dream of being a prince or princess coming down the stairs.

We develop the habit of escaping from our cares
The mental world becomes so strong

Now you will be able to discern what is true
And you'll intuit what to do.
Worries, doubts, and fears will be a thing of the past
When you learn to watch them and let them pass.

Sometimes a word or a deed you will need.
When you are calm you will act without commotion.
You'll move with grace and calmness instead of emotion.
The result will be progress
And step by step you will find success.

It's important to learn to mentally stand back

Pastor's out spreading lots of holiday cheer
And he knows you're all glad that he is here.

But for Pastor Roland the cupboards are bare,

Because the money just isn't there.

Since he won't ask, I'll ask on his behalf.

So here goes - and don't laugh.

Pastor needs some money,

He's so broke it isn't funny.

Only a hundred dollars will pay his radio dues.

Even fifty dollars will take away his holiday blues.

Can you afford twenty five?

It would keep his internet alive.

Okay - how about ten or even seven?

It will make him exclaim "Thank Heavens!"

So now it's up to you to choose.

Why New Years Resolutions Never Work

We can't really change ourselves
Even though we try.
One person gives up alcohol
Then is addicted to shopping at the mall.

One guy gave up cigarettes
Then got hooked on toothpicks instead.

Another decides it's time for a total make over.
But soon is back to the same old chocolate and turnovers.

That's why when a person resolves to change,
A year or two later they're in the same old fix again.

They haven't changed at all inside
They are still hanging onto a shred of pride.
They want their cake and eat it too.
They seek to impose their will on life
Instead of waiting to see
What is God's will for them to do.

So they swap addictions
Or place on themselves many restrictions.
Willing and struggling and growing frustrated,
Eating carrots and lettuce in public
But secretly keeping pie refrigerated.

You can't change your nature inside
No matter what you resolve or decide.
A leopard can't change his spots.
We can only pretend to be what we're not.

New Year's resolutions never work.
A jerk who acts nice is still a jerk.

So what can you do to become a new you?

First change on the inside
It's better than all the make overs you tried.

"But how? But how?" you are going to say.
I will give you the answer right away.

It begins with seeing your wrongs
And wanting to change but not knowing how
And crying out to God to help you now.

The first change will be
Your new response to the wrong
About yourself that you see.
When your conscience wordlessly shows it
Let conscience rub your nose in it.

In the past you resented being shown
The wrong you didn't want to own.
You denied the truth by trying to make yourself right
And pushing your conscience out of sight.

True change begins in the moment
When you are shown something wrong about yourself.
But this time, instead of trying to make yourself right,
You say to conscience's quiet inner light
"Yes, I'm wrong. You are right. "

It's ironic that God makes the biggest from the small.
From the acorn a mighty oak tree will grow to be.
The tiny fetus one day will become a dazzling beauty.
And for you, repentance is the biggest change of all
Though it begins in a moment quiet and very small.

The salvation of the world in a lowly stable was born.
And your own salvation begins in a moment when you mourn.

Now can you see why your decisions to change were just denying
God His moment when he was trying
To gently and wordlessly show you your error.
But you resented the message that conscience was bearing.

So the next time you see that you messed up,
Just see it and all your efforts to deny it just stop.
Wait to feel sad, then chastened, then glad.

When your struggle against truth you finally end
You'll discover that conscience is really your friend.

Next time your resent your husband or wife
And you suddenly see that
Resentment is the bane of your life,
Just quietly see that this is true.

Your conscience is not trying to hurt you.
Repentance is God's life giving emotion.
Though He may give you a healthy portion.
Next time you are impatient with your child
And you suddenly see your impatience is wrong,
Bear the pain that is firm but mild.
It is how to God you are reconciled.

And it won't be long

Before one day you'll wake up and see
That your resentment and impatience have departed.
Sheer magic it will be
Without effort on your part.
Just don't resent seeing your error.
The light of conscience is a truth bearer.
When you allow God to repent you,
It become His responsibility to change you too.

You won't need the sweets, drinks or drugs you tried.
When you soften your heart and drop the pride.
It was pride that made you feel needy and empty inside.
Frustration disappears and so does tension and crocodile tears.
You'll discover that resentment blocked love all those years.

Conflict is gone. You're no longer wrong.
Goodbye doubts and fears!
Hello sunshine and the robin's song!

True change begins in the moment
When you are shown something wrong about yourself.
But this time, instead of trying to make yourself right,
You say to conscience's quiet inner light
"Yes, I'm wrong. You are right. "

The Pastor Online Poem

Is there a pastor on call?
I'm facing temptation and about to fall.

If I smoke is it a sin;
Is wine less bad than gin?
Can I eat a nut from the grocery bin?

Where is the parson to talk to
I'm stuck in the fast food drive thru.
My husband is driving me crazy, what should I do?

My kid never cleans his room
I'm always behind a broom.

I'm tired of washing dishes;
Does God grant our wishes?

Is holy water really effective
Are time outs really corrective?

I just don't know what to do
If you're a pastor, I need to talk to you.

Is there a minister on the internet?
There probably isn't, I bet.
Or there isn't one yet.

Wait! I've got some good news today
Pastor Roland is no longer away.
He is the talk to a pastor guy
He is back, so email him and say hi.

If you have a question or two
He's got an answer for you.
His answers are sometimes short
And sometimes they are long
But never are they wrong.

Stressed out and anxious today?
He's got a meditation, and you don't have to pay.
Need a little inspiration
Pastor Roland's site can be found across the nation.

Just go online
Pastor is there some of the time
and his resource center is open all the time.

Questions for Pastor Poem

I drive from Texas to Oklahoma
I have a question about Jonah

Was he really in a whale three days
Will we like the people of Ninevah change our ways?

Does God still talk to people like He with the early believers
Are TV miracles true or just to deceive us

Hello, I'm in India, specifically New Delhi today
Is there a pastor to ask to help me to pray?

I've got good news for you
Pastor Roland is there for you
He's retired and a volunteer
Full of compassion and lots of cheer
From you he says he wants to hear!

Greetings from an Africa nation
There are many Christians here
I have a question about salvation
My thoughts are not clear

I have a teacher
But I want to ask a preacher
A pastor online who I can ask anytime

I'm in France on the Cote d'Azur
About God I'm just not sure

I've got good news for you
Pastor Roland is there for you
He's retired and a volunteer
Full of compassion and lots of cheer
From you he says he wants to hear!

  The Ask a Pastor Poem

"Hey, where can I ask a pastor
For an answer faster?

I'll settle for a preacher, a chaplain or an abbe
I need an answer right away."

Is it karma or fate
Or God's will
That I feel over the hill?

Hey, I'm in New Jersey
Is life complicated or is it just me?

If you just don't know
Just ask Pastor Ro.

"In Merry Old England
Should a person still wear the wedding band?

I need to talk to a minister
In my room I saw something sinister.

I need some Christian answers
Does the Bible ever mention panthers?

Or zebras or dinosaurs?
Why are there so many wars?

I want a definitive answer;
Where is the online pastor?"

"I moved from Los Angeles to New York City,
And I'm not asking for any pity,
But I left behind my kitty,

Now my boyfriend says he believes in casual dating
But I just want to go for a walk or roller skating."

I'll talk to an evangelist, a parson or a deacon
But, please, not too much preaching.
Just an answer or two
Then I'll say thank you.

No problem, my friend
If you have an email question to send
You don't have to worry no more
Just send your question to Pastor Ro

Pastor Roland answers questions online
And he's around most of the time.

Pastor Roland has been helping for 24 years
Answering questions and wiping away tears.

To Australia
Pastor says "hello mates,
To his friends in Montreal he says
Good night, sleep tight.
Make sure you all live right.

To all my friends on the East Coast
I'll be back in the morning when you're eating your toast

Answering questions with the best intentions

Best wishes
Love and kisses

God knows best,
Now have a good rest.
